1948
- 1st January, the advance party left Moreton bound for Finningley.
Soon to be followed by the remainder of 1 (P) RFU.
- 2nd January, the transfer of the Unit's aircraft started with the
departure of the Oxfords, the Wellington's and Spitfires were used to finish
the training schedule before the rest of the unit left.
- January/ February, for the first time in nearly 7 years a hush fell
over RAF Moreton-in-Marsh.
The Station Commander now became Gp Cpt F.E. Lipscombe.
The airfield started to be used by the Central Flying School at Little
Rissington as a relief landing site for its T3 Mosquito's.
- 12th February, the first of several Mosquito crashes happened when
VT 594 came to grief after a practice overshoot.
- Spring, the Medical Training
Establishment opened under the control of the Technical Training
Command.
- 5th May, HJ991 was destroyed by fire after crashing 2 miles
North-West of the Airfield.
- 4th August, TW116 crash landed and caught fire on the airfield, its
wooden construction meaning total loss of the aircraft.
- 12th August, a Harvard practicing forced landings in the area,
undershot the runway and hit the hedges of a boundary road after the engine
failed to respond, there were no injuries and the aircraft survived to fly
again another day.
