Dick Arscott
Just before the Coronation, Dick Arscott and his family moved into 4 rooms in
the Officers Married Quarters, what used to be the WAAF site, as was the trend
at the time many people planted trees for the Coronation.

So, Mrs Arscott and Dick went off to the disused part of the airfield to see if
they could locate a sapling and after a while she found the one she wanted.
It was growing up through an old hardstanding and even though her husband
brought to her attention many others that would be easier for him to lift
out, she said,
"If it would grow through tarmac it would grow anywhere".
So, the little silver birch sappling came out and was planted in their new
garden.
Today the little sappling still stands and has grown up!
And it has a prominant position in the camping site that now occupies the
area.
